Each year, the BC Book Prizes sends several finalist authors on tour around the province. As part of BC Book Prizes On Tour, these authors tour communities visiting one elementary school and one high school in each community, as well reading at a public event in a local bookstore or library (with book sales).
The 2008 BC Book Prizes On Tour was our biggest tour to date, visiting a record 25 communities and bringing “real live authors” to literally thousands of children and adults throughout BC.
The 2007 inaugural Adopt-a-Library program furnished nine BC school libraries with a lasting, tangible legacy of these author visits: a collection of BC Book Prize titles valued at $500. In 2008, 24 schools received donations. These books are purchased by the Book Prizes directly from the publishers with funding from local community-minded businesses and individuals, whose support is acknowledged in commemorative book plates.
In 2008, the Adopt-a-Library program confirmed the following sponsors of this initiative:
Thanks to all for helping to bring the best of BC writing and publishing to the next generation of readers and authors.
If you would like to find out how your $500 donation can bring the best of BC writing and publishing to a school near you, call Trevor Battye at 604-687-2405 ext. 23.
