Andrew Nikiforuk is the first Canadian to win Rachel Carson Environment Book Award

Huge congratulations to Andrew Nikiforuk, author of Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent (Greystone Books) for winning the prestigious Rachel Carson Environment Book Award from the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) in the United States.

Order of Canada Given to Jack Hodgins

On July 2nd, Jack Hodgins, winner of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence in 2006, was award the Order of Canada. Congratulations to Jack on recieving this prestigious distinction!

Whistler Readers & Writers Festival

The eighth annual Whistler Readers and Writers Festival will take place September 11-13, 2009.

More than twenty invited Canadian authors and editors will descend on Whistler this fall as special guests in a weekend-long siege of word-wielding and poetry-slinging. Don’t miss 2009 Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize winner Lee Henderson (The Man Game), Claire Mulligan (2008 finalist), and Annabel Lyon (2005 finalist) all reading together on Opening Night! Other BC Book Prize recipients participating include Nancy Lee (2003 finalist) and Wayne Grady (2005 finalist) as one of the Writers in Residence!

Congrats Andrew Nikiforuk

Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent by Andrew Nikiforuk (Greystone Books) has been nominated for the prestigious Grantham Prize for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment. The award is given jointly by the University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting and the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment.
