UBC Farm Fundraiser with Brian Brett and Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks

Join Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks and Trauma Farm author, Brian Brett for a fundraiser for UBC Farm on Wednesday, July 7, at 6:00 p.m. Brian Brett was shortlisted for three different BC Book Prizes in 2010 for Trauma Farm: A Rebel History of Rural Life, and won the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

At the fundraiser, Brian will read from his book and respond to questions on farming issues. Mark Bomford of UBC Farm will also update guests on new developments for UBC farm. This reception will include local wines and an array of UBC Farm’s early summer bounty.

Cost: $75.00 (includes a signed copy of Trauma Farm). Proceeds of all ticket sales will be donated to UBC Farm. Pre-registration is required as space is limited; early booking is advised. Writing Workshop with Kristin Butcher at Coho Books

Kristin Butcher will be running a free writing workshop at Coho Books in Campbell River on Saturday, June 26th. Kristin participated in the BC Book Prizes On Tour and was shortlisted for the 2010 Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize. She will also be available to sign her books from 9-11am.

Coho Books says, “It will be a free seminar for aspiring authors entitled “The Truth About Writing”. The workshop will talk about critical elements of writing, editing and getting a book published.  From tips on creating a work that you will be able to sell to publishers, to avoiding the common pitfalls, this workshop will help writers reach their full potential.  There will be a Q&A period for participants to have their specific concerns addressed.”

Hope in Shadows Photo Contest 2011

Hope In Shadows, a community project by Brad Cran and Gillian Jerome, is based around a photography contest for residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The prize-winning photos are featured in an annual calendar which residents themselves sell for a profit. Hope In Shadows the book was shortlisted for the 2009 BC Book Prizes.
