Rachel Hartman Wins 2013 Sunburst Award

On September 18 the Sunburst Award Committee announced Rachel Hartman as the recipient of the 2013 Young Adult Sunburst Award for her novel Seraphina. Rachel was also a finalist for the 2013 Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize.

Sarah Ellis Presents “Bringing Your Whole Self to the Story”

Sarah Ellis, recipient of the 2013 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence, presents “Bringing Your Whole Self to the Story” at the Writers’ Roundtable on Bainbridge Island tonight (September 17). Sarah will discuss her own writing process and what goes into a piece of fiction. Held at the Bainbridge Public Library at 7 pm, the roundtable is free and open to writers of all skill levels. No registration is required.

Jackson Davies to Co-Host Laughs on Tap

Jackson Davies will co-host Vancouver TheatreSports League’s Laughs on Tap tonight (Thursday, September 12) at The Improv Centre. Laughs on Tap will feature a silent auction, beer from Granville Island Brewing, canapés, and an improv comedy show. All proceeds go towards Vancouver TheatreSport League’s education and youth programs. Tickets are $40 per person and are available online.

Jackson was shortlisted for the 2013 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize and Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

Susin Nielsen and Polly Horvath Shortlisted for TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award

Former BC Book Prize finalists Susin Nielsen and Polly Harvath have both been shortlisted for the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award. Susin is shortlisted for The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen, which was also a finalist for the 2013 Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize, and Polly is shortlisted for One Year in Coal Harbour. The winner of the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award will receive $30,000 during the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Awards gala ceremonies being held in Toronto on October 22, 2013. Young readers will also have a chance to vote for their favourite book from the list of finalists, awarding the first ever TD Canadian Children’s Literature Fan Choice Award.
