Grant Lawrence Book Tour

In celebration of his forthcoming title The Lonely End of the Rink: Confessions of a Reluctant Goalie, 2011 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award winner Grant Lawrence will embark on a cross-country book tour. Book launch events will take place in over 25 communities across Canada, all of which will include stories from the new book, a slide presentation, a short film, Q+A, book signing, and live musical performances from special guests in select cities. Chronicling Lawrence’s love/hate relationship with Canada’s national winter sport,The Lonely End of the Rink: Confessions of a Reluctant Goalie will be released by Douglas and McIntyre on October 24. Book launch events will be held in the following BC cities:

  • Vancouver - Thursday, October 24, BC Sports Hall of Fame, 7pm-9pm, with musical appearance by Bodhi Jones

Sarah de Leeuw to Appear at The Vancouver Writers Fest

Sarah de Leeuw, recipient of the 2013 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize for Geographies of a Lover, will join Ontario novelist L. Marie Adeline (aka Lisa Gabriele) for Sizzle (Event 43) at The Vancouver Writers Festival. The event, which takes place at 8:30 pm on Thursday, October 24, pairs two writers whose work has explored enticing and emotionally powerful sexual scenarios from a women’s perspective. Tickets are $19 each and are available for purchase online.

Shortlists Announced for Governor General’s Literary Awards and City of Vancouver Book Award

Former BC Book Prize winner and finalists have been shortlisted for both the Governor General’s Literary Awards and City of Vancouver Book Award. Julie Morstad, illustrator of the 2012 Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize winning book When I Was Small, has been shortlisted for the Children’s Literature: Illustrations category of the GG Awards for her latest book How To. Sandra Djwa is a finalist for the Non-fiction category for Journey with No Maps: A Life of P.K. Page, which was also shortlisted for the 2013 Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize. Additionally, 2013 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award finalist book Exploring Vancouver by Harold Kalman and Robin Ward has been shortlisted for the Vancouver Book Award. Winners of the GG Awards will be announced on November 13, while the winner of the Vancouver Book Award will be revealed on November 22.
