Poetry in Transit—and CONTEST

Each year the ABPBC partners with Translink and BC Transit to produce Poetry in Transit. You can visit the website and read PDFs of all the poetry featured since the project began in 1996.

Many poets featured in this year’s Poetry in Transit project have received or been shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. See all the 2009 poetry excerpts on the ABPBC website.

13th Anniversary Poetry in Transit Contest

This much-loved project has been running since 1996 and in that time has featured 190 poems from established and emerging writers. In partnership with TransLink and BC Transit, the ABPBC produces sixteen poetry cards annually featuring the work of BC-authored and Canadian-published poets. The cards are displayed on buses and SkyTrains throughout the transit systems in BC.

To celebrate the April 28th, 2010 launch of this year’s Poetry in Transit, the ABPBC will be hosting the 13th Anniversary Poetry in Transit Contest! Did you meet your soul mate while reading a poem together on the bus? Have you gotten into a heated argument with a fellow passenger over a line in a poem? Tell us your best Poetry in Transit story to be in contention to win the grand prize – all 16 books of poetry from this year’s poets.
