Jackson Davies to Visit Maple Ridge

Little Cricket Gift Gallery in Maple Ridge will play host to 2013 finalist author Jackson Davies this Saturday, December 7. The book signing event will take place from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. For more information, or to reserve a signed book, please call Little Cricket Gift Gallery at 604-476-1234.

Jackson Davies was shortlisted for both the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize and the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award in 2013 for his book Bruno and the Beach: The Beachcombers at 40, which commemorates the 40th anniversary of The Beachcombers – Canada’s longest-running dramatic TV production.

Book Signing with Beverly Delich & Shelley Fralic

2013 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award winner Shelley Fralic will be at Black Bond Books in New Westminster on Saturday, December 7 at 12 noon. She will be joined by co-author Beverly Delich as they celebrate the release of Come Fly with Me: Michael Bublé’s Rise to Stardom, a Memoir (Douglas & McIntyre, $32.95) with a free book signing event. Grant Lawrence Book Tour

In celebration of his forthcoming title The Lonely End of the Rink: Confessions of a Reluctant Goalie, 2011 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award winner Grant Lawrence will embark on a cross-country book tour. Book launch events will take place in over 25 communities across Canada, all of which will include stories from the new book, a slide presentation, a short film, Q+A, book signing, and live musical performances from special guests in select cities. Chronicling Lawrence’s love/hate relationship with Canada’s national winter sport,The Lonely End of the Rink: Confessions of a Reluctant Goalie will be released by Douglas and McIntyre on October 24. Book launch events will be held in the following BC cities:

Sarah de Leeuw to Appear at The Vancouver Writers Fest

Sarah de Leeuw, recipient of the 2013 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize for Geographies of a Lover, will join Ontario novelist L. Marie Adeline (aka Lisa Gabriele) for Sizzle (Event 43) at The Vancouver Writers Festival. The event, which takes place at 8:30 pm on Thursday, October 24, pairs two writers whose work has explored enticing and emotionally powerful sexual scenarios from a women’s perspective. Tickets are $19 each and are available for purchase online.

Sarah Ellis Presents “Bringing Your Whole Self to the Story”

Sarah Ellis, recipient of the 2013 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence, presents “Bringing Your Whole Self to the Story” at the Writers’ Roundtable on Bainbridge Island tonight (September 17). Sarah will discuss her own writing process and what goes into a piece of fiction. Held at the Bainbridge Public Library at 7 pm, the roundtable is free and open to writers of all skill levels. No registration is required.

Jackson Davies to Co-Host Laughs on Tap

Jackson Davies will co-host Vancouver TheatreSports League’s Laughs on Tap tonight (Thursday, September 12) at The Improv Centre. Laughs on Tap will feature a silent auction, beer from Granville Island Brewing, canapés, and an improv comedy show. All proceeds go towards Vancouver TheatreSport League’s education and youth programs. Tickets are $40 per person and are available online.

Jackson was shortlisted for the 2013 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize and Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

Talk and Book Signing with Anakana Schofield

2013 Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize finalist Anakana Schofield joins Jeet Thayil and fellow finalists Anosh Irani (2007) and Michael Turner (2010) on Thursday, July 11 at the Indian Summer Festival for “Urban Underbelly,” a discussion on urban subcultures. Esi Edugyan and Steven Price to Visit Haida Gwaii

Esi Edugyan and Steven Price head to Haida Gwaii this weekend with their daughter Cleo where they will give two free readings. The Haida Gwaii Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts will sponsor two free public readings by Edugyan and Price in the villages of Queen Charlotte and Port Clements: on Friday, June 28 at 6:30 pm at Queen Charlotte’s Spirit Square and on Saturday, June 29 at 11:45 am on the main stage at the Canada Day celebrations in Port Clements.

Esi Edugyan was the recipient of the 2012 Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her novel Half-Blood Blues. Her partner Steven Price was shortlisted for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize that same year for his first novel Into That Darkness.

‘A Gathering of Poets’ with Dorothy Livesay Finalists

Join this year’s Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize finalists for ‘A Gathering of Poets’ at the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library on Wednesday, June 19. The free event runs from 7-9 pm and will feature readings from 2013 Dorothy Livesay recipient Sarah de Leeuw (Geographies of a Lover) as well as finalists Evelyn Lau (A Grain of Rice), Roger Farr (IKMQ), Patricia Young (Night-Eater) and Colin Browne (The Properties).
